Don't you hate having to spend your family vacation all cooped up in a hotel room because of the rain? Obviously, this wasn't your first choice for a family vacation spot. You would rather enjoy the day at the beach or on the golf course.

However, the weather is horrible outside. As expected, your family is in an extremely foul mood. How do you spend this time with your family without locking your spouse out on the balcony or screaming uncontrollably at the kids?

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Change your attitude. Unfortunately, the weather changed your vacation plans, but it shouldn't ruin the day. The sooner you understand and accept this, the sooner you will be able to enjoy your family vacation. Adjust your plans accordingly.

  2. Step 2

Think about the time spent. Technically, you only have to spend about 8 hrs of your family vacation cooped up in your hotel room. The other sixteen hours are things that you would have normally done during your vacation anyway. You would have spent about 8 hrs on the beach or golf course if it had not rained. Come up with some fun indoor activities that will keep your family happy.

  3. Step 3

Play some family board games. Play charades or tic tac dough. Be creative, but don't get too noisy and disturb the other registered guests.

  4. Step 4

Establish a television schedule. Let's see,one television,a rainy day, one hotel room and more than one family member. None of these things go together. Decide who gets to watch what and when. In order for this to be a successful family vacation day, everyone has to be in agreement.

  5. Step 5

Take a dip in the indoor swimming pool. The possibility of a rainy day is the main reason why you should always book a hotel with an indoor swimming pool. Swimming is a favored activity on family vacations.

  6. Step 6

Use the hotel's computer . Ask the hotel management to be put on the computer waiting list. Yes, there will be a waiting list because of the rainy weather. Normally a family vacation isn't the place for this type of activity, but your plans have changed.

  7. Step 7

Explore the hotel's other amenities. Use the guest sitting areas and browse the hotel's brochures. Usually there are vacation brochures in the lobby which list the area's main attractions. This is the best time to plan a few local vacation activities that you may have overlooked.

  8. Step 8

Take a break from your vacation and get some rest. Yes,if all else fails take a nap. You are probably tired from your other vacation activities. Now would be a good time to grab some needed down time. A family vacation should also be relaxing.

  9. Step 9

The time spent on family vacation is always extremely coveted. Don't let this day be any different. Spend time with you family. Consider the possibilities. As long as your spouse doesn't file for a divorce, hotel management doesn't knock on your door and the children are breathing and all accounted for, your day will be successful. Spending a rainy family vacation day in your hotel room can be done. Uh oh, better check tomorrow's forecast.
