Instructions

  1. Removing Odor From Upholstered Furniture

    • 1

Blot up as much of the mess as possible with paper towels and discard of them immediately.

    • 2

Mix one cup of water and one cup of white vinegar in a spray bottle and add two tablespoons of dish soap. A scented dish soap such as Mrs. Meyers can help counter the vinegar smell.

    • 3

Spray the area with the solution and wipe the area with a clean dry cloth. Work the solution into the fibers, but don't over saturate it as it will be harder to dry.

    • 4

Sprinkle baking soda all over the area. This will help draw out the moisture to help it dry and absorb any lingering odors.

    • 5

Vacuum up the baking soda once the area is dry.

    Removing Odors From Wood Furniture

    • 6

Soak a clean cloth in 3 percent hydrogen peroxide.

    • 7

Place the cloth directly on top of the affected area and cover it with plastic wrap.

    • 8

Place a heavy object on top of the plastic wrap to help press the cloth firmly onto the wood.

    • 9

Check on the cloth after an hour. As it begins to draw the residual urine out of the wood it will begin to discolor. Replace the cloth with a fresh one also soaked in hydrogen peroxide until no more urine comes up.

    • 10

Sprinkle baking soda over the area where the urine was and allow it to sit for 2 to 3 hours before cleaning it up to help absorb any remaining odors.

Tips & Warnings

  • Test the solution on an inconspicuous area of the furniture for colorfastness before using it to remove the odor.
