Kickboxing is a sport that bridges the gap between Muay Thai competition and boxing. As the name implies, kickboxing allows striking with kicks, using the shin to deliver damage to an opponent, as would be allowed in a Muay Thai match but still excludes some strikes forbidden in boxing, such as elbows.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Find schools in your area, and compare comments by past students in regard to the style and caliber of training offered. Some schools will be more serious, with a focus on competition, but others might focus on kickboxing as a means of practicing good health, and it is important to choose a school that will match your needs.

  2. Step 2

Attend classes to receive schooling in proper technique. You will learn about how to properly strike while still protecting your head and to throw kicks that land with the shin, not the foot, providing more damage.

  3. Step 3

Watch videos online to help improve technique, as well as experience new moves you might not know yet.

  4. Step 4

Begin sparring after you have had sufficient training to be able to properly defend and properly restrain yourself if a sparring partner requires it.

  5. Step 5

Perform cardiovascular activities, such as running or yoga, to improve your cardiovascular ability and, in the case of yoga, your flexibility, allowing you to better perform the techniques learned.
