With enough spin, you can make the ball bend and dip around players and, better yet, sometimes in between goalposts. This trick makes the ball curve outward.

  • Soccer Cleats
  • Soccer Shin Guards
  • Soccer Uniforms
  • Soccer Videos
  • soccer balls
  1. Step 1

    Approach the ball straight on.

  2. Step 2

Place your nonkicking foot to the side of the ball and about 12 inches behind the ball.

  3. Step 3

Take a full backswing with your kicking leg.

  4. Step 4

Keep your ankle locked at a 90-degree angle.

  5. Step 5

Point your toes severely to the right before making contact with the ball, if you are kicking with your left foot, or to the left if kicking with your right foot.

  6. Step 6

Strike the ball on the side closest to your planted foot.

  7. Step 7

Follow through, keeping your toes pointed to the right.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you're kicking left-footed, the ball spins counterclockwise. If you're kicking right-footed, the ball spins clockwise.
  • Plant your nonkicking leg more than a foot behind the ball to get more spin.
  • Once you learn to kick this with power, the ball will bend, or curve, in the air.
  • This kick will have less power than an in swerve kick.
  • If you have any condition that would impair or limit your ability to engage in physical activity, please consult a physician before attempting this activity. This information is not intended as a substitute for professional medical advice or treatment.

on 7/7/2006 To do the rainbow kick:

1- Put your left foot in front of the ball

2- Bring your right foot to the back of the ball (make sure your right foot is sideways).

3- Roll the ball up the back of your left leg with your right foot

4- After your have rolled the ball up, quickly get your right foot out of the way. As the ball rolls down, give the bottom half of your left leg a flick and the ball should hit the back of your foot and go over your head.

on 11/22/2005 sometimes it can be useful to put as much power in the kick as possible with a normal shooting motion (toes pointed down) and to hit the ball slightly left of centre (or right if you are left-footed) - Remember Roberto Carlos's boomerang free-kick against france?
