With the release of the Leopard operating system, Apple gave Mac users the ability to create their own widgets to use in the Dashboard application, which comes installed on all new Mac computers. These widgets are created through the Safari web browser and can contain any web content from a site that you visit. After you select the content you want to use in Dashboard, Safari will build a widget from it and automatically update it anytime you open Dashboard.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Open the Safari application by clicking on the icon in the Dock.

  2. Step 2

Navigate to the webpage with content that you want to create a widget for in Dashboard.

  3. Step 3

Go to the "File" menu at the top of the screen and choose the "Open in Dashboard" option.

  4. Step 4

Move your mouse over the part of the webpage that you want to use in Dashboard. Safari will automatically break the page's content into rectangles with different content that you can select. When the rectangle you want to use is highlighted, click on it.

  5. Step 5

Use the image tools around the rectangle you selected to adjust the height and width of the Dashboard widget you will be creating.

  6. Step 6

Click on the "Add" button in the upper-right corner of the window. Safari will now create a Dashboard widget based on the content you selected. Each time that you launch Dashboard, the content in the new widget will automatically be updated.
