How to Do Faux Painting Color Wash
Do a faux painting color wash on your walls for a quick change of pace.
A color wash is one of the simplest faux painting techniques. No real skill is needed, other than being able to apply paint to a wall.

Things You'll Need
- two colors of latex paint
- glazing liquid
- paint brushes and rollers
- bucket or container for mixing

Gather your supplies. Choose a satin finish for each of the two paint colors.

Prepare your work space. Wipe down walls if needed. Tape areas that you do not want to paint. Set drop cloths on the floor, as needed.

Open one can of paint. Begin with the lightest color of the two. Apply the paint to the walls. Let it dry.

Open the second can of paint. Pour 1 part paint into the bucket or container for mixing. Then add 4 parts glaze. So if you use 1 cup paint, use 4 cups glaze. Mix the paint and glaze, stirring well.

Begin applying the glaze/paint mixture over the first paint color with a paintbrush. Vary the brush strokes, using random patterns to create a pleasing effect on the wall.

Let the paint/glaze mixture dry. Another option is to apply a third color in a paint/glaze mixture to the walls. Play around with this technique for a fun color wash faux painting technique.
