How to Make Yarn Pom-poms

Yarn pom-poms can be a fun addition to any craft project

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Yarn
  • Card board
  • Sharp pointed scissors
  1. Step 1

    Cut the card board in a 3 inch by 4 inch rectangle

  2. Step 2

    Cut out the inside of the card board rectangle, leaving @ 1 inch on all sides

  3. Step 3

    Cut a piece of yarn @ 6 inches long, set aside

  4. Step 4

    Turn the card board so the 4 inch sides are left to right

  5. Step 5

    Hold the end of the yarn near the bottom just after the cut out

  6. Step 6

    Wrap the yarn top to bottom covering the cut out, leaving the sides uncovered

  7. Step 7

    Keep wrapping back and forth until the yarn is thick (the thicker, the denser the pom-pom)

  8. Step 8

    Insert one end of the 6 inch piece of yarn between the right side of the card board and the wrapped yarn then around the back of the wrapped yarn and through the left side between the card board and wrapped yarn

  9. Step 9

    Tie the 6 inch piece of yarn in a tight knot

  10. Step 10

    Cut the top section then the bottom section of the wrapped yarn

  11. Step 11

    Fluff the pom-pom

Tips & Warnings
  • These instructions make a 3 inch pom-pom – adjust rectangle size according to size pom-poms needed
