Step 1
Tell your toddler that they are you special assistant. If they think that you are in it together and they are apart of what you are doing they will be happy to participate in the activities that you set aside.
-
Step 2
Give your toddler a desk. Set it up just like yours. Give them a chair, a clip board, a phone, a toy computer if you have one, sticky note pad and whatever else you have that is safe for a toddler to play with.
-
Step 3
Give them jobs. Let them take notes, sort papers and open junk mail. They will love to do important real life work. Tell them good job.
-
Step 4
Communicate every few minutes to keep them involved. Toddlers have a very short attention span and will stray to find something new to take in. Unfortunately they often stray and find things that you do not want them to do. So keep checking the work they are doing and keep the projects coming.
-
Step 5
Give them a break often. Let them out to play, give snacks and read some books. If you want to get any work done with a toddler around you must keep their needs in the forefront of everything you do.
-
Step 6
Give them a paycheck at the end of the day and let them spend it. Make them a fake check to pay them for their work. Take them to the dollar section at target and let them pick out a toy with their earned money that they made from all the work they did. They will be more likely to do this often if you offer a reward. They will also start to gather the concept of why mom and dad work.
