Write a Flawless Resume

Writing a resume is such a simple process, but a simple mistake or error could make or break your opportunity to obtain a job. Use these steps to create a flawless resume.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Computer or Laptop
  • Printer
  • Professional Resume Paper
  1. Step 1

To begin the process, gather all references and listings of your job history.

  2. Step 2

Although it is not completely necessary in many cases, creating a cover letter gives the job applicant an accurate way to introduce themselves and share why they are indeed qualified for the position.

  3. Step 3

Remember to target your resume for the type of position that you are trying to obtain.

  4. Step 4

Make sure that your resume is only ONE page unless instructed to do otherwise.

  5. Step 5

At the top of the document, include all of your contact information. Having your full name, address, phone number and e-mail address will make it easier for the employer to reach you.

  6. Step 6

Include your career objective and target it towards the position that you are attempting to obtain.

  7. Step 7

Include your educational information as well as prior employment history. If you were ever let go of a job after a short period of time, but still want to include it on the resume, type the year that you worked there and not the specific time period.

  8. Step 8

Perhaps the most important aspect of your resume is the references. Include reliable references and ensure that your references are prepared just in case they are contacted.

  9. Step 9

Look online for different designs that you can use to make your resume look creative. You want it to stand out from the others. However, too many designs will make it look unprofessional.

on 9/16/2009 These are great tips-- the only thing I can add is that in many fields you provide your references on a separate document to make sure that their contact information is not widely distributed and is only used by firms interested in hiring you.
