Deal With Thoughts of Suicide

There are many kinds of emotional factors that can lead to thoughts of suicide. The thought of ending your own life does not necessarily mean that you truly want to die. It can mean, rather, that you have more pain than you can bear to cope with right now.

The pain of deep depression is intense. And the truth of the matter is that suicide is merely a quick solution to end a temporary problem.

So how does one deal with thoughts of suicide?

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Talk To Someone

Although you may feel like you are going through a serious withdrawal. It's always best to talk to someone, preferrably someone who loves you and is supportive. And if you aren't very comfortable talking with someone you know. There are many groups out there where you can remain anonymous and discuss what's going on. These are people who won't try to argue with you about how miserable you feel nor will they tell you to just "snap out of it". They will not judge you. They will simply listen and be there for you.

You can call 1-800-273 TALK for more information.

  2. Step 2

Write Down Your Thoughts On Paper

This helps more often than you may think. A lot of times it's hard for people to sit and discuss their emotional torment, and they often find it easier to convert their thoughts and feelings onto paper. It even helps you to reflect while being able to to put things into better perspective.

So even if you aren't in the mood to talk to anyone at the moment, or just don't know how to discuss your feelings. Find a serene, comfortable, and peaceful location to unwind, and embrace all your thoughts while jotting them down as they come to mind.

  3. Step 3

    Avoid alcohol and other drugs

Drugs an alcohol can only make you feel worse. In fact, many studies show that drugs use and alcoholism are contributing factors to having thoughts of suicide.

  4. Step 4

Make time for things that make you happy

Whatever it is that may be troubling you, no matter what it may be; social issues, school, work, relationships, a death in the family. Take the time out to do things that make you happy. Go to a movie, spend time with loved ones, go shopping, to a concert, a show or just simply get out of the house. These are things that can uplift your spirits and make you feel better. Your enviroment plays a big part in your mental health so it's good to do things that can take your mind off of the things that may be bothering you.

The reasons for this kind of pain are unique to every person, and whether or not the pain is bearable differs from person to person. But even if you're in a lot of pain, give yourself some distance between thoughts and action. Depression and emotional stress is never permanent. You can and will be able to feel better again.

But only if you are willing to reach out for help. Take action today!
