Things You'll Need:
- 2 Mac computers

Step 1
First, you need to make sure that you update your Mac to Mac OS X v10.5.6 or later.
This will ensure you that the Migration Assistant will recognize both Mac computers -
Step 2
After that, you need to make sure that your MacBook Air and old Mac computer are connected to the same network.
The Migration Assistant will not recognize the migrate files command if both computers are not on the same wireless or ethernet network. This is a simple process that you need to complete before moving on. -
Step 3
Once both Mac computers are connected, open up the Migration Assistant tool on BOTH computers.
To find the Migration Assistant, go to Applications-Utilities and then open it. -
Step 4
After the Migration Assistant is open on both computers, go to the old Mac computer and select the option called "To Another Mac"
This will tell the old Mac computer that you want to migrate your files to your new MacBook Air. -
Step 5
Next, go to the MacBook Air and select the option "From Another Mac" and a numbered password will appear.
It is important to make sure that you don't click any other option besides this. You will run in to problems if you don't select these options in the right order. -
Step 6
After selecting the option on your MacBook Air, copy the numbered password and enter it on your other Mac computer.
What you are doing is telling the other Mac computer where you want the files to be migrated to. -
Step 7
Finally, you will want to follow the instructions on the screen until the Migration Assistant has finished transferring the files to your MacBook Air.
