Difficulty: Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Lucid dreaming is the art of dreaming while being fully aware (lucid) that you are dreaming. Individuals who achieve lucid dreaming are ultimately able to control what they dream about and also control events in their dreams.
The lucid dreamer is aware that they are in the safety of their home and bed while their dream is taking place which helps considerably with nightmares and traumatic dream imagery. However, some people who experience lucid dreaming still are not able to actually control and alter the dream sequence despite being aware that they are dreaming. Lucid dreaming differs from person to person.

  2. Step 2

You can practice and work towards achieving lucid dreams by relaxing before bedtime and thinking about whatever you wish to dream about. If you wish to dream about a loved one, try chanting that person's name in your head over and over until you drift off to sleep. We usually tend to dream about the things on our mind directly before bedtime.

  3. Step 3

You are more prone to easily experience lucid dreaming when you are sleep deprived or when you get way too much sleep. It is not known why excessive sleep or the delayed absence of sleep triggers lucid dreaming, but keep this mind next time you are working to experience lucid dreaming. Try to take naps throughout the day as more people who nap often experience accounts of lucid dreaming.

  4. Step 4

When you are asleep and dreaming, practice making yourself say aloud "I know this is a dream, I know this is a dream." Say this repetitively and this statement will help you ascertain your lucid dream status. Over time, you will be able to play with your dreams and alter them with practice.

  5. Step 5

It is important to be patient and in no time you will experience lucid dreams.
