The fencing style that you choose will have a lot to do with how much privacy you are looking to achieve in your yard. If you want privacy fencing, choose a fence that is high. With privacy fencing, you will want wood or aluminum fence posts and slates that are not spaced; different from the conventional "white picket fence", which is more for aesthetic appeal. -

Pick a fencing material.
There are wood fences, aluminum fences, wire, vinyl, and the list goes on. Each fencing material has it's perks and drawbacks; consider durability, appearance, safety, expense, etc. Decide what features are most important to you before you buy fence material.
