How to Troubleshoot an HP Power Supply
Whether it's a laptop, desktop or printer, all computer components produced by Hewlett-Packard require the use of a power supply. However, you may run into the frustrating problem once in a while, where the power supply will not function properly and the device will not power on. Luckily, this is not difficult to troubleshoot.

1
Check the computer or printer's power insertion point. This is where the power connects to the device. Make sure it is completely inserted into the HP. For laptops, this will be on the side, while computers and printers have their power source on the back.
-
2
Inspect the connection between the power cord and the power supply cord. This will be where the cord from the HP device plugs into the large box end of the power supply. Make sure this is not loose.

3
Feel the exterior of the cable. Check to see if there are any cuts or bites (from pets) on the cable. A cut or bite into the cable can often result in power failure. If there is an abrasion, use electrical tape to carefully wrap it.

Check to see if the HP power supply cord is plugged into the power outlet properly. If it's inserted into a surge protector, make sure the surge protector was not accidentally powered off. If it is connected to the wall properly and the device is still not powering on, try plugging it into a different wall outlet. Sometimes a particular outlet will stop working (especially in older buildings).
