Laser cartridges are the life blood of the computer laser printer. They provide the printer with ink, which will allow it to print documents and images onto paper. However, specific laser printers take specific cartridges, and purchasing the wrong cartridge will result in printer problems because it will most l likely not fit into the laser printer's designated slot. You need to make sure you have the correct cartridge for your specific printer.

  1. Step 1

Look in the user manual that accompanied your printer. It will state specifically what cartridge number you will need to purchase. If you do not have the user manual, you can go to the manufacture's Web site to look up your printer. It will state what cartridge number you will need to get.

  2. Step 2

Go to a store that carries laser printer cartridges, such as Best Buy, Staples, Office Max, Wal-Mart or Target.

  3. Step 3

Look through the generic brand ink cartridges first. These will state "Comparable to..." followed by the model number of a printer cartridge. Look to see if you can find your own model number. These will be far less expensive as the normal, name-brand cartridges.

  4. Step 4

Select the cartridge and purchase it. If you do not find what you are looking for, you will be able to purchase it from online stores (Staples.com, Officemax.com, etc.). These will be the same price,; however, you will typically have to pay shipping on the laser cartridges.
