How to Make a Curtain Topper From Cloth Napkins
There's plenty of room to let your inner designer play when you make a curtain topper. It can be colorful and fun and suitable for a kitchen, playroom or kid's room when you mix and match colors and patterns. Using a solid-colored napkin that mirrors the color in your curtains or complements it subtly is a more elegant, subdued treatment. You only need a few supplies and minimal sewing skills. The project can be completed in less than an hour. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Buy enough cloth napkins to cover the length of your curtain rod when they're laid side by side with the corners overlapping.
-
2
Place one cloth napkin flat with a point facing toward you, so it's in a diamond shape. Place another napkin next to it and overlap the points that are next to each other. The overlap should be about 3 inches, but make it wider or more narrow to suit your taste.

-
3
Pin the napkins together along all four sides of the overlap. Use matching thread, or a contrasting color, to stitch the napkins together. The stitching will form a small diamond.
-
4
Continue overlapping and stitching the napkins together until you have a length that will cover the curtain rod.
-
5
Fold all of the corners along the top down about 2 inches. Make sure the loop formed by the fold is big enough for your curtain rod to slip through. Pin the corners in place and use a small stitch to sew them together.
-
6
Space cafe rings evenly along the top of your curtain. Alternate sliding a cafe ring and a loop on sewed-together napkins onto the curtain rod.
