Instructions

  1. Making Your Costumes

    • 1

Search the Internet for ideas that fit your group. Bands, television show casts, movies, celebrities and video games can all serve as an inspiration for costumes that will suit your group.

    • 2

Find clothing in your house that works for your costumes. Blue jeans can work for many different costumes. A long skirt might suit a gypsy, Minnie Pearl or a historical character.

    • 3

Add details to your basic costume to make it more original and specific. If someone in your group wants to be Sharpay from High School Musical, add lots of feathers or rhinestones to a plain dress to get her signature look. Most items can be attached with a hot glue gun. Find accessories that go with your character.

    • 4

Paint your faces or apply makeup to finish off your looks.

Tips & Warnings

  • Be creative in your ideas and don't let the number of people in your group deter you. If your group wants to dress up as characters from the Harry Potter books, but your family includes a baby, don't let that stop you. Dress the baby as a plant and have him be a Mandrake from the book. Acrylic craft paint is inexpensive and washes off of skin easily.

  • Children should not wear face masks because the eye holes may restrict their vision. Use face paint instead. Do not allow children to use the hot glue gun because it could cause burns.
