Cell phones are such a part of life that they go with us everywhere and accidents can happen. An innocent day at the beach can turn into a waterlogged phone in the pocket or a small movement of the hand can send a phone into a pool your lounging next to.

These little accident don't always have to mean buying a new phone. Follow these steps and see if you can keep your phone alive.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Wet cell phone
  • Towel
  • Rice (optional)
  1. Step 1

Immediately remove the phone from the water.

  2. Step 2

If the phone is on, turn it off right away. If it isn't on do not try to turn it on.

  3. Step 3

    Remove the battery.

  4. Step 4

Remove your SIM card or memory card if it has them.

  5. Step 5

Open up your cell phone, if it opens, and leave it open for the rest of the steps.

  6. Step 6

Pat your cell phone down, front and back, get as much moisture off as you can.

  7. Step 7

Place your cell phone in a bowl or bag of rice, cover the phone completely. Seal the bag or bowl.

If you do not have rice you can just sit your phone in a warm dry place.

  8. Step 8

Let the phone sit for 1 - 2 days.

  9. Step 9

Remove the phone from the rice and gently dust off excess rice and dust from the rice. You can use short quick burst, shooting off to the side, of air from a can of compressed air if you have one.

  10. Step 10

Try to power on your phone.

If your phone turns on and functions properly congratulations!

If it doesn't I am sorry to say that it might have been too exposed to the water and you might have to replace your phone.
