How to Make a Monkey Costume

Making a homemade monkey costume has a moderate difficulty rating based on the amount of sewing required. If you are handy with a sewing machine, this will be a rather easy costume. If you aren't that handy and can't find someone with a talent at the Singer, then it may be more difficult. Aside from the sewing element, however, it would be difficult to find a less complicated way of making a monkey costume than this.

Instructions

  1. Making a Homemade Monkey Costume

    • 1

Measure the fake fur into strips that fit the jumpsuit and cut to size. Sew the strips into the jumpsuit's arms, legs and torso. Depending on whether you are making a costume for an adult or child, this means a lot of sewing but because the strips will be large, it should not be too difficult even for someone without a lot of experience. The seams should not give too much trouble if the fur is thick enough to cover any mistakes. The only other problem area may be creating an additional strip of material to cover up the zipper or the buttons on the jumpsuit to easily get in and out of the costume.

Cut some more fur to fit the tops of your brown gloves. Most monkeys don't have much hair on their fingers, so you can leave the fingers of the gloves bare to create a more realistic effect. For best results, use tight-fitting leather gloves.

    • 3

Attach more fur to the hood and neck of the hoodie jacket. Wear the jacket beneath the jumpsuit and then pull the hood up full over your head. In order to be able to see well and for safety's sake, the best way to create your monkey face is with makeup. Many monkeys have a widow's peak, so don't forget to include that. Some monkeys have hairy faces so you could use fake beard hair, while others have little hair on their face.

Hot glue some fur onto the top of the black shoes or onto the top of toe socks. The tops of the shoes or socks should be completely covered in fur, but also make sure you have covered the entirety of the jumpsuit's legs in fur.
