One of the most common causes of itchy feet is a foot fungus, commonly known as athlete’s foot. This condition can affect anyone, but especially those whose sweaty feet are confined for long periods of time in tight-fitting shoes. This fungus can be picked up from many surfaces, including gym floors, locker rooms, showers or even your kitchen or bathroom floor at home. The itching this fungus causes can be pretty intense. Fortunately, there are ways you can speed the healing and help stop feet from itching, whether the cause be this fungus or other general causes.
Things You'll Need
- Antifungal foot spray
- Antifungal/anti-itch foot powder
- Breathable, soft socks
Wash your feel well with soap and water. Dry them with a clean towel--place the towel in the wash soon after, to prevent spreading any infection.
Spray your feet with an antifungal foot spray--make sure you get the product in between toes and on the soles of your feet as well as other areas. These foot sprays are formulated specifically for the fungus that commonly causes itchy feet and will usually help the itch.
Sprinkle antifungal/anti-itch foot powder inside a pair of clean cotton socks. Slip your feet into these socks. Wear socks that are loose and breathable--change them if they get damp for any reason.
Spray the inside of all your pairs of shoes with the anti-fungal spray. For additional protection, sprinkle foot powder inside the shoes as well.
Keep your feet as cool and dry as possible. If you can avoid wearing confining shoes, such as sneakers, for a while then do so. Reapply the antifungal spray as often as the label indicates you may. You should continue using antifungal creams or sprays for the time indicated on the label (usually two to four weeks) even if symptoms are gone. Otherwise, the fungus may return.
