Using ice cubes to remove stains from carpets

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • cup with water and ice
  • clean wash cloth
  • clean, dry towels
  • baking soda (optional)
  1. Step 1

If the stain is recent, pat and blot up any excess moisture.

  2. Step 2

Place the wash cloth in the cup of ice and water. Allow it to become completely saturated, wring it out and then place it over the stain, patting the cold moisture into the carpet.

  3. Step 3

After you have completed step 2, take an ice cube from the cold water and use it to lightly rub the stain in a circular motion, being careful to work in the moistened area so you do not enlarge the stain. The ice cube will be melting as you do this, which is fine. The idea here is to keep the area cold and damp as you are working to lift the stain using step 4.

  4. Step 4

Use one of your clean, dry towels to blot and pat the area, lifting the stain onto your towel.

Tips & Warnings
  • Repeat steps 3 and 4 until your stain is gone.
  • If you are removing a stain from an area rug or have the ability to lift up the carpet the stain is on, place a clean towel (preferably white) underneath the carpet.
  • If there was an odor to the stain and it still lingers after your have removed the stain, allow the area to dry, sprinkle good old-fashioned baking soda over the area, and wait about 10 minutes or so before vacuuming it up.
