How to Give Proper Business Introductions

There are very distinct rules one has to follow when making introductions for both business or social occasions. A person with greatest authority is the person who always receives the introduction. Authority is the significance of age, wealth, seniority, rank, or title.

  • Know someone with authority
  • know someone without authority
  1. Step 1

    When making the introduction, always say the name of the person with the greatest authority first and then introduce others to them. Example: "Mr. Authority, I would like to introduce to you our President, Mr. Less-Authority." Then you say, "Mr. Less-Authority, this is Mr. Authority.

  2. Step 2

    Keep the use of titles and first names the same for both people. If you use Mr. or Ms. for one, then you have to do the same for the other person.

  3. Step 3

    Look at the person whom you are introducing as you say his or her first name.

  4. Step 4

    It is always customary for the introducing party to give a brief description of the people whom they are introducing. Example: Mr. Authority, Mr. Less-Authority is our new President." "Mr. Less-Authority, Mr. Authority has been a client for a long time.

  5. Step 5

    In the world of business customer, clients, donors, and external sources of the organization are considered to be of greater authority.
