How to Focus on Schoolwork
It is not always easy to pay attention and focus on schoolwork. A lot of things can interfere with being able to work steadily in class. Physical discomfort, not understanding the work, distractions in class or simply being tired can all make it hard to focus on schoolwork. Being proactive and goal-oriented can make it much easier to focus and complete schoolwork, whether you're at home or in class.

1
Get enough sleep prior to class and eat a healthy breakfast. Being tired can make people much more fidgety and far more easily distracted. Being rested will help you to sit up and listen to lectures. Get a drink of water and move around before class, or do some exercises. You'll be more likely to remain alert.

2
Clear your desk of anything that you do not need. Having only the work that needs to be done on your desk will make it easier to focus on it. Make sure all your school materials are well organized so you can find what you need.

3
Keep your pencil or pen in your hand when doing a written assignment. If it is a reading assignment, keep your hands on your book. Place a finger where you should be reading. Keeping your hands busy with what you should be doing will help you to stay on task.
-
4
Make a list of due dates at the beginning of each semester. Know when all assignments are due and tests are scheduled, and set reasonable deadlines to accomplish what you need to do. Make a calendar to track all this information, and ask the teacher about dates if anything seems unclear.
-
5
Maintain concentration while studying at home by taking breaks. If you have studied for 45 minutes, take a 15-minute rest period to relax your mind. You want to stay fresh for the next studying session.
-
6
Don't procrastinate. Putting off assignments and papers until the day before they are due will cause you to panic rather than calmly approach the task.
