Put on your eye patch and be ready for “Talk Like a Pirate Day”. Celebrated every year on September 19, "Talk Like a Pirate Day" gives every pirate at heart a chance to come out and talk like a Pirate. Spurred on by movies such as “Treasure Island” and “Pirates of the Caribbean”, talking like a pirate can become second nature. It could be time for you to stop swabbing the deck, take up your rapier wit and celebrate "Talk Like a Pirate Day". Who knows? For you, every day could become an opportunity to say Arrr!

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Decide what your pirate name will be. Have fun with it until you find your perfect pirate title. This is all fun and games anyway.

  2. Step 2

Think like a Pirate or at least learn some basic words. Aye, avast and arrr are all basic words that will get you started.

  3. Step 3

Read “Treasure Island” by Robert Louis Stevenson. You will learn about treachery and adventure on the high seas. “Treasure Island” was first published in 1883 by Cassell & Company, Limited, London.

  4. Step 4

Design your own pirate flag. There are many examples of different pirate flags. Make yours unique based on your particular pirate interests.

  5. Step 5

Plan a treasure hunt. Few things in life are more fun than coming up with a map and directions for your landlubber friends. Let them search for the treasure you hide for them.

  6. Step 6

Make a pirate drink. Help your pirate trainees become the pirates they were meant to be with something citrusy to prevent scurvy.

  7. Step 7

Carry gold coins. Gold-covered chocolate coins will work perfectly.

  8. Step 8

Practice swashbuckling. This is different for every person and includes swaggering.

  9. Step 9

Teach your friends and family a few facts about pirates. Pirates were not nice people. There is plenty of information out there about pirates, both past and present. Explain that “Talk Like a Pirate Day” is just for fun.
