Step 1
Unscrew the tension rod from the wall and slip the curtain rings with the curtain off. If your rod is permanent, release the curtain from the rings.
-
Step 2
Start filling your wash machine with hot water and on the smallest load setting, for the shortest amount of time. Add some detergent and a cup of bleach. Place the curtain (with or without rings) into the wash machine and start the cycle.
-
Step 3
Let the machine wash the curtain for the few minutes it takes before the rinse cycle starts - usually about five or six minutes or until it starts draining the wash water.
-
Step 4
Open the lid and remove the shower curtain before the water drains out. It will still be warm and very flexible and there is no need to rinse it. Set it into a laundry basket and carry it back to the bathroom.
-
Step 5
Attach the curtain back to the shower rod and allow the curtain to drip dry. Use the soapy bleach water in the wash machine for a load of white clothing.

on 10/25/2009 I've washed my shower curtain in the washer before, but never thought to use bleach or take it out before the rinse cycle began.
Great article. 5*
