How to Make a Hockey Jersey Display

Hockey jerseys are often treasured possessions by hockey fans and players. A framed, glass-front display case is the ideal way to hang a memento from playing as a youth or a signed jersey from a favorite NHL player like Mario Lemieux. These cases are quite expensive to buy and are available only in a few styles. Making a hockey jersey display case allows you to customize it to fit any size jersey.

Things You'll Need

• Tape measure
• Frame with glass
• 2-inch-wide wood trim
• Saw
• Nails
• Hammer
• Primer
• Paint
• Piece of cardboard
• Utility knife
• Black velvet
• Scissors
• Hot glue
• Staple gun and staples
• Straight pins
• Two hinges
• Latch
• Screwdriver

Instructions

1. Lay the jersey flat on a table with the arms hanging straight down and measure the length and width. If the dimensions are too large for the space on your wall, you can fold the bottom of the jersey behind to shorten it and fold the sleeves in front. Secure the folds with straight pins.

2. Purchase a frame large enough for the jersey to fit inside.

3. Remove the backing from the frame.

4. Cut the 2-inch-wide wood strips into four pieces to match the dimensions of the frame. Nail them together to form a box.

5. Spray primer and paint on both sides of the box.

6. Use a utility knife to cut a piece of cardboard the size of the box.

7. Cut a piece of black velvet 2 inches wider and longer than the cardboard.

8. Cover the cardboard with the fabric. Fold the edges to the back and secure with hot glue.

9. Staple the cardboard to the back of the box you nailed together, with the fabric facing the inside.

10. Pin the jersey on the fabric. As an alternative, you can attach a rod to the back of the box to hang the jersey.

11. Attach the frame to the box with two hinges on the left and a latch on the right.
