  1. Step 1

Plan ahead. There is no substitute for this step. Do not wait for the 'Last minute deals'.

  2. Step 2

Avoid traveling on weekends. Air fares are generally higher on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays

  3. Step 3

Search fares at multiple website such as Orbitz, Expedia, hotels, com etc. Do not forget to search fares at kayak.com. This search engine uses all the other sites to retrieve the best fares.

  4. Step 4

Purchase packages whenever possible. If you know for sure you would be staying in a hotel and renting a car at your destination I highly recommend that you purchase the air ticket plus hotel plus rental as one package. You will save a lot of money by doing so. Hotwire.com offers some of the very best package deals.

  5. Step 5

Sign up for fare alerts. Most of the online booking sites offer this feature. You can even save your fare search criterion and choose to receive daily or weekly fare updates. Book when cheapest.

  6. Step 6

And, last but not the least search flights directly at the airline websites. Sometimes sites like Orbitz, Expedia or Kayak.com fail to list the cheapest flight

Tips & Warnings
  • Do not sacrifice your comfort for money. Do not book the flight that has a zillion stop overs and is only a few bucks cheaper than the direct flight.
