This is a neat and tidy way to store your plastic shopping bags. Safely keep plastic bags away from small children or simply add a decorative touch to your kitchen, bathroom, car, office or where ever you have a need for plastic bags.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Fabric: 15x15 inch square
  • Elastic
  • Thread and Needle or Sewing Machine
  • Ruler
  • Marking pen or tailors chalk
  • Scissors
  • Pins or Iron
  1. Step 1

Measure Fabric - Measure a 15 by 15 inch square of Fabric for each bag holder you want to make. In that square measure a 4 inch by 15 inch strip and mark it off with a marking pen or tailors chalk.

  2. Step 2

Cut Fabric - Cut out your square and the rectangular strip with in it.

  3. Step 3

Fold the Strap - Take your 4x15 inch strip (this will be your strap), fold in half and roll so that the raw edges meet up in the middle of the fabric. Fold in half again so the raw edges are now inside the Strap. Pin to secure or iron in place.

  4. Step 4

Sew the Strap. Sew straight down the open edge of the strap being sure to lock your stitches at each end.

  5. Step 5

Sew Elastic in the ends of the fabric. Fold ½ inch fabric over twice at each end and pin the elastic into one end. Tack the elastic into place by stitching down and locking in place (back and forth sewing). With the elastic secured sew straight down the fabric encasing the elastic. Be careful not to sew on the elastic. When you get to the end hold on to the tacked down elastic and pull the other end. This will make the elastic springy. While holding the elastic tack it down. Repeat for the other end of fabric

  6. Step 6

Fold fabric in half right side together. Place the strap between the 2 right sides. Sew straight down the raw edge being sure to grab the ends of the strap. Lock stitches on the strap to give it more strength.

  7. Step 7

Turn inside out; your Strap should now be on the outside. Top Stitch over the edge.

  8. Step 8

Fill with bags and hang on a tack, hook, or door knob
