How to Do Simple and Lasting Dreadlock (loc) Hairstyles
Maintaining locs isn't difficult but does require some time. Some simple loc styles can last until your next shampoo if you take your time and use the best hair care product for your hair type. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- existing dreadlocks (locs)
- shampoo and conditioner
- holding or styling hair care product
- small rubber bands, sponge rollers or wrap-a-loc styling tools

Wash your locs. After shampooing, conditioning and eliminating excess water from your hair, begin twisting your roots with your chosen hair care product and secure twisted roots. Twist root in whatever direction you desire until you've created a smooth cylindrical section of hair emitting from your scalp.

Saturate loc from root to tip with a holding product and choose one of the following steps to create a simple and lasting dreadlock (loc) hairstyle.

To create a wavy look: For every 3 locs for which you've saturated and twisted roots, braid them together and secure the tips with small rubber bands or sponge rollers. Release the braids when your locs are thoroughly dry. The ends will either be slightly bent or curled depending on with what you chose to secure the tips.

To create a curly look: With a sponge roller, wrap each damp loc around the sponge from end up to root and fasten at scalp. Repeat for each loc.

To create a coiled look: Invest in the product called Wrap-a-loc. This unique styling tool allows you to wrap your loc around it from tip to root and affix it at your scalp. The tool can be worn while your hair is drying for an interesting Afro-Centric look and be let down once dry, creating a Shirley Temple/coiled look. (I learned about it from a Loc Convention and use it myself.)

Tips & Warnings
Palm rolling is not necessary.
Simple twisting motion in one direction with thumb and index finger will suffice.
