Acne can effect both men and women, and can be an embarrassing and painful condition. It occurs when you hair follicles become clogged by oil and dead skin cells, resulting in blackheads, whiteheads or pimples. A gentle cleansing and perhaps some medication is needed to treat an outbreak.

Things You'll Need

  • Gentle soap
  • Benzoyl peroxide cream, 2.5 percent concentration
  • Moisturizer for sensitive skin

Cleanse gently. Many people scrub their skin too aggressively and use harsh soaps, which can lead to irritation, inflammation, and can aggravate acne pustules. To get rid of acne pustules, use a soap that is formulated for sensitive skin. Simply lather the skin gently, then rinse it with water. Avoid rubbing the skin, as this can cause the skin to become inflamed.

Apply a low-concentration bezoyl peroxide to the affected area. Benzoyl peroxide is extremely effective at getting rid of acne, but using a concentration that is too high. can burn the skin and cause severe irritation over time. Use only the lowest-strength benzoyl peroxide cream, typically a 2.5 percent concentration. Spread a nickel-sized amount onto the skin, smoothing it carefully around the face until it has been completely absorbed into the skin.

Moisturize. It is necessary to moisturize the skin after using benzoyl peroxide cream to keep your skin from becoming too dry or irritated. Look for a lotion that is designed for sensitive skin so that it does not contain harsh chemicals or perfumes. Make sure that it is oil-free so that it does not re-clog the pores. Spread a dime-sized amount on the area until it is absorbed into the skin.
