If you've registered your phone number with the national "Do Not Call" list to stop telemarketers, and a telemarketer calls you anyway, here's how you can file a complaint. Even if your phone number isn't registered with the national "Do Not Call" list, you can file a complaint if a telemarketing company calls using a recorded message instead of a live person.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

When you receive a telemarketing call, write down the time and date of the call. Check your caller ID and write down the number of the company if possible, and also listen to the telemarketer long enough to find out and write down the name of the company. You can also take the opportunity to ask to be put on their company's own do not call list.

  2. Step 2

Go to the complaint form on the national Do Not Call registry website at https://complaints.donotcall.gov/complaint/complaintcheck.aspx?panel=2

  3. Step 3

Fill in your phone number, the time of the call, and on the next page, report the name and number of the company and any comments. If the telemarketer is calling you back even though you've asked to be put on their do not call list, be sure to click the button to report that, and you can add it in the comments section as well.
