How to Mount and Dismount a tire

Learn how to mount a tire onto a rim as well as remove a tire from a rim.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • tire machine
  • tire iron
  • tire lube
  • valve stem core remover
  • tire weight hammer/remover
  1. Step 1

    DISMOUNTING TIRES

    De flate the tire by removing the valve core with the valve core remover and remove the balancing weights.
    Place tire against tire machine where the tire shovel is. Make sure the valve stem is at 6 o’clock and break the bead seat at 9 and 3 o’clock. Do this on both sides of the tire.
    After the tire is of the bead seat lubricate the bead area with rubber lubrication.

  2. Step 2

    Place tire on tire machine, select the correct nut to screw down tire on spindle. Lock tire in place by pulling the tire lock switch on the side of the machine.
    Put the far end of tire in the drop center of rim and pry up on the tire with tire iron so that it is underneath the tire

  3. Step 3

    Slowly rotate tire on machine while pushing up on tire until one end of tire is off the rim
    Place tire in drop center again and pry the bottom half of tire up with tire iron. Slowly rotate the tire while pushing up until the tire is free from rim.

  4. Step 4

    MOUNTING TIRES

    Place rim on machine and lock it down.
    Place far end of tire in drop center. Using the mounting end of the tire iron place the iron so that it forces the tire on the rim when turned.
    Slowly turn the tire pushing while pushing down until the bottom end of tire is on the rim.

  5. Step 5

    Place far end of the tire in drop center and place tire iron on tire so that it forces tire on rim when turned.
    Slowly rotate the tire while pushing down until top part of tire is on the rim.

  6. Step 6

    Put air in the tire with the valve core out until beads are forced in the seats.
    Screw in valve core and put the recommended tire pressure in tire.

Tips & Warnings
  • There are a few versions of tire machines, this article is reffering to the version with the center spindle that rotates.
