There are 2 basic types of kitchen sink garbage disposal units: the continuous feed model and the batch feed model. The continuous model has an on/off switch on the wall. The batch model is operated by a twist handle lid on top of the disposal. Installation requires plumbing and electrical wiring. It is a good idea to have an electrician install an outlet and a wall switch before installation. After the basic electrical wiring is done you can proceed with installation of the disposal.
