Step 1
Keeping children under two out of daycare, and away from sick children, including siblings and adults will lower the risk of RSV. RSV is very contagious and can even cause death in some children.
-
Step 2
Effective hand washing with soap and water by all members of the family, or anyone else who will have contact with the child is very important. Never touch, or allow anyone else to touch a baby without washing their hands first.
-
Step 3
Never allow anyone to smoke around children. Exposure to cigarettes smoke increases the chances of developing RSV.
-
Step 4
Talk to your pediatrician to determine if your child is at high risk for RSV. High risk children can be given medicine to help aid in the prevention of RSV. If your child is at high risk, take them to the doctor at the first sign of a running nose or cold.
-
Step 5
Avoid being around crowds of people during RSV season. This is usually from Fall til Spring.
