How to Clean and Shine Wood Floors

Wood floors need more care than most floors. However, by following a few simple tips, maintaining the beauty of wood floors is simple.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Broom with soft, fine bristles
  • Clean, soft cloth
  • 1/2 cup distilled white vinegar
  • 1 gallon water
  • 2 teabags
  • 1/2 teaspoon olive or jojoba oil
  • 1/4 cup vinegar or fresh lemon juice
  • Self-adhering gliding pads
  • Carpet runners, area rugs and mats
  1. Step 1

    Remove dust from wood floor by sweeping it with a broom with soft, fine bristles or use a vacuum cleaner's soft brush attachment.

  2. Step 2

    Don't allow water to settle on wood floor to prevent warping.

  3. Step 3

    Use a damp cloth to clean wood floor.

  4. Step 4

    Wet a soft cloth in a mixture of 1/2 cup distilled white vinegar and 1 gallon water. Wring out excess moisture and use to mop wood floor.

  5. Step 5

    To keep wood floors shiny, soak 2 teabags in boiling water for a few minutes and mop wood floor with the liquid or wipe floor with 1/2 teaspoon olive or jojoba oil and 1/4 cup vinegar or fresh lemon juice.

  6. Step 6

    Attach self-adhering gliding pads to the bottom of furniture and do not drag furniture across wood floor.

  7. Step 7

    Use carpet runners, area rugs and mats to protect wood flora from water, stains, dirt, dust and excessive sunlight.

  8. Step 8

    Use rug or plastic floor protector for furniture that is on wheels.
