How to Find the SMTP for Sky Broadband

Sky is a communications company based in the United Kingdom that provides television, telephone and broadband communications in the UK and Ireland. In 2006, Sky began offering high-speed Internet access but had some hiccups in 2008 with its SMTP servers. Some settings will need to be changed to ensure email is sent securely via your Sky account.

Instructions

    • 1

Open your email program (i.e. Microsoft Outlook).

    • 2

Go to your account settings. In Outlook 2003, for example, this is in the "Tools" menu, under "Email Accounts."

    • 3

Enter your full Sky email address (username@sky.com) for the email address.

    • 4

Configure the "Incoming Mail Server" for either POP3 (pop.tools.sky.com) or IMAP (imap.tools.sky.com).

    • 5

Set the "Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)" as smtp.tools.sky.com. This setting should be used for both POP3 and IMAP.

    • 6

Enter your login information. Your username is your Sky email username and should include "@sky.com". Your password is your Sky email password.

    • 7

Locate the "Advanced Settings" (or, for some email programs, "More Settings") for the outgoing mail server (SMTP). Configure the SMTP server so that it requires the same authentication as the incoming mail server (either POP3 or IMAP).

    • 8

Configure the outgoing mail server (SMTP) and incoming mail server (either POP3 or IMAP) to require an encrypted (SSL) authentication. Enter 465 for the port number of the outgoing mail server (SMTP). Ensure the option for using a secure password is unchecked.
