How to Make a Nine-Pointed Star

A nine-pointed star has a deep significance in religions and cultures. It appears to be a complex symbol; however, it is actually made of three intersecting or intertwined triangles. As such, creating a nine-pointed star or a template for a nine-point star can be made using three triangles with equal sides (equilateral), with a compass to aid each triangle's placement. The nine-pointed star can be decorated and displayed during the holidays or added to adorn gifts.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Lay a sheet of cardboard lengthwise (i.e., landscape orientation with short side up). Measure three inches from the left corner, and use your ruler to draw a horizontal line six inches long.

    • 2

Use your compass to measure an angle 60 degrees from the left point, towards the right and draw a line six inches long from that angle. Measure another 60-degree angle from the right point pointing towards the left and draw a six-inch line (the two angled lines should connect to form an equilateral triangle).

    • 3

Cut out the triangle and set aside. Repeat steps 1 and 2 with the remaining two sheets of cardboard and cut out those triangles.

    • 4
Two triangles; second triangle is positioned at 130 degrees (left point).

Position one triangle, so the central point is pointing down. Position another triangle on top and rotate it, so the point on the left is at a 130-degree angle..

    • 5
Three triangles; third triangle is positioned at 50 degrees (right point).

Staple the two triangles to hold their positions, if desired. Position the third triangle on top and rotate it so that the point on the right is at a 50-degree angle.

    • 6
Three triangles form a nine-pointed star.

Staple all three triangles to hold their positions, if desired. Glue the triangles in place and if desired, wrap in foil or decorative paper.

Tips & Warnings
