How to Create a Floor Plan Online

Create a variety of floor plans online.

Whether you are building a home, moving into an existing home or simply rearranging your home, creating a floor plan of the interior of your home can be a beneficial activity. Once you have an accurate floor plan, decorating and rearranging suddenly becomes much easier. There is no more dragging or lugging furniture to different locations to see if you like the effect. Create a floor plan online, and take all of the hard work and effort out of arranging a room.

1. Visit floorplanner.com. Find the green "personal" link in the upper-right corner of the web page and click on this link. Select the free floor plan option that allows you to create one house with both two-dimensional and three-dimensional options. Click "Signup now."

2. Enter your email address, create a password, and enter it twice into the required fields. Review the terms and conditions, check the box to indicate you agree, and place a check in the other box to indicate whether you wish to receive email updates from this website. Click "Create account."

3. View your dashboard. To enter a floor plan, click on "My first project." Wait for the workspace to load.

4. Select the 2-D or 3-D option at the top of the workspace by clicking on either. Click the "Construction" tab to open the options for creating the floor plan. To create a room, click the "Draw room" icon. Click anywhere on the design space to draw the room and move the mouse across and over from your clicking point to make the room. Click the mouse when your room has the dimensions you desire. Adjust the dimensions of the room by moving the corners in or out.

5. Add doors and windows by clicking on the "Add door or window" icon under the construction tab. Click and drag the desired doors and windows from the Library window on the right over to the room on the left. Double-click on the inside of the room to choose a floor covering for the room.

6. Select a room from the drop-down menu in the upper-right corner to add furniture and accessories as desired. Click and drag the items you want over to the workspace. Rotate the items to place them in the positions you want them. Add rugs, plants, electronics, and even people to the rooms as well. Look at your room in both the 2D and 3D options to gain additional perspective in what you are creating.

7. Save your room design by clicking "Save now" near the top of the workspace. Name your design and click "Save." Print your design by clicking the printer icon at the top right of the web page or save the design on your hard drive.
