Construction paper butterflies are a simple craft that nearly anyone can make, from preschool aged children on up. This project lends itself well to group projects as well as being a fun Valentine's Day activity, as the wings of the butterfly are made from heart shapes. For smaller children, you may wish to precut the pieces, or trace the needed shapes for the younger set to cut out.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Cut out four similarly sized heart shapes for the wings. You may make them all one color or two each of two colors.

  2. Step 2

Cut out a long oval shape to serve as the body of the butterfly.

  3. Step 3

Glue the pointed tips of the four hearts to the back of the body oval, splayed out to resemble butterfly wings.

  4. Step 4

Cut out a medium-sized circle for the head. Glue the head to the top of the body oval.

  5. Step 5

Cut out two small circles for eyes and glue them to the head (or you may draw eyes or use some other material).

  6. Step 6

Cut long, thin rectangles for antennae, or you may use pipe cleaners. Glue the antennae to the top of the head.

  7. Step 7

Cut out and glue two tiny hearts or circles for the tips of the antennae.

  8. Step 8

Decorate your butterfly in any manner you desire.
