How to Replace Foam Pads on Stereo Headphones

Stereo headphones serve a variety of purposes with today's electronics. Some people use a headset for talking on the telephone, for listening to a personal audio device or with a microphone to listen and speak into a computer. With regular use, the foam pads on stereo headphones wear out. Replacing these foam pads with new ones renew your headphones. Replacement ear pads are also a hygienic option if more than one person uses a set of headphones.

Replacing a Headset's Foam Pads

1. Remove the old foam pads from the headphones by carefully prying them off the earpieces. Look at the earpieces that are now visible with the foam pads removed and measure the diameter of one earpiece across the edge to the sound holes. Standard diameters are 1.5- and 2-inch. Some headphones with oval-shaped earpieces may be as large as 2.25 inches by 2.75 inches. Write down your earpiece diameter.

2. Visit scansound.com to choose replacement foam pads. Headphone pads that are 40 mm fit 1.5-inch earpieces. Headphone pads that are 50 mm fit 2-inch earpieces. Headphone pads that are 60 mm fit larger and oval-shaped earpieces.

3. Choose your headphone replacement pads based on your earpiece size and order them on the website.

4. Slip the round opening of the pads over the earpiece to complete the replacement.
