How to Make Knitted Baby Slippers
Knitting baby slippers is a great way to celebrate a child's birth. If you are a beginning knitter ready to move to the next step, this pattern for knitted baby slippers is a perfect way to practice some new skills. Besides the knit stitch that you learned as a beginning knitter, you will use decreasing and ribbing. The whole bootie is knitted at one time and then it is folded and sewn together.
Things You'll Need
- 1 skein sport or baby yarn
- Size 3 knitting needles
- Scissors
- Large-eyed needle

Gather Size 3 knitting needles and one skein of sport or baby yarn.

Cast on 28 stitches and knit 10 rows. Every row knitted it is called the garter stitch.

K12, K2 together, K2 together, K12 in the next row. When you knit two stitches together, your are decreasing your row of knitting by one stitch.

Knit straight across the next row, K11, K2 together, K2 together, K11 in the next row.

Knit straight across the next row, K10, K2 together, K2 together, K10 in the next row.

Rib the next five rows. To rib, K1, P1, K1, P1 across the row. In other patterns you may notice that ribbing can be directed in the pattern of K2, P2 or K3, P3 or K4, P4.

Cast off in the ribbing pattern. Leave a 18-inch tail and cut the yarn. Pull the yarn tail through the last loop on your knitting needle after removing your knitting needle.

Fold the baby slipper in half and sew on the inside, down the back and along the center of the sole. Turn the baby slipper right side out. Complete the same instructions for the second baby slipper.

Tips & Warnings
Use Size 6 knitting needles and medium worsted weight yarn for a larger baby's foot. To make a baby booty, add five more rows of ribbing.
