Not every state has outlawed smoking cigarettes in public places. Depending on where you go, your clothing may reek of cigarette smoke after spending a night at a restaurant, club or bar. If you have spent several consecutive hours around cigarette smoke, simply washing the clothing items may not remove all of the cigarette smoke smell. By using white vinegar before you wash, you can eliminate the cigarette smoke smell from your clothing.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • White vinegar
  • Liquid laundry detergent
  • Liquid fabric softener
  • Dryer sheets
  1. Step 1

Fill your sink with cold water and half a cup to a cup of white vinegar. How much vinegar you add will depend on how many clothes you are washing and how smelly the clothes are.

  2. Step 2

Soak the clothes in the solution for 15 minutes.

  3. Step 3

Hang the clothes in your bathroom, preferably near your shower.

  4. Step 4

Set your shower to the hottest possible temperature. Turn your shower on and close the bathroom door so the room fills with steam. Turn the shower off after about five minutes, and keep the clothes in the steam-filled room for 30 to 60 minutes.

  5. Step 5

Rinse the clothes thoroughly with cold water. Wring the clothes out and re-rinse them several times.

  6. Step 6

Place the clothing into the washing machine. Add liquid laundry detergent to the machine and liquid fabric softener to the clothes. Run the washing machine as normal.

  7. Step 7

Toss the clothing into the dryer. Add two dryer sheets and then run the dryer as normal.
