Instructions

    • 1

Cut the bottom and top off of a soda can using your craft scissors. Roll the newly formed aluminum sheet back on itself so that it lays flat on the table.

    • 2

Draw a diamond-shaped template on a piece of paper and then cut it out. Tape the template to the aluminum and cut out two identical pieces.

    • 3

Cut 3/16 inch off the edges of one of the two aluminum diamond pieces. Put the two pieces together, making sure the printed sides face each other. Notch all four corners of the diamond.

    • 4

Fold the edges of the slightly larger diamond over the smaller one. Gently tap along the edges of the newly formed ornament with the edge of a hammer.

    • 5

Lay the ornament on top of a piece of cardboard and pierce the metal with a pushpin to create a punched decorative design. Aside from making the ornament more visually appealing, this process will also "sew" the two pieces of aluminum firmly together.

    • 6

Thread a four-inch piece of thin wire through one of the decorative holes near the top of the ornament and twist it in place to secure it. String a few beads on the wire and make a curlicue at the top to hang the ornament.

Tips & Warnings

  • These aluminum ornaments are very shiny and can be placed in other well-lit areas of the home to add sparkle during the holiday season.

  • Be careful when cutting and handling the cut aluminum cans, as they can be very sharp.
