You might wish to carve a pumpkin or draw out a pumpkin image while decorating for Halloween. Creating a pumpkin face with basic eyes, a nose and mouth is not your only option. There are numerous imaginative jack-o'-lantern patterns that can be carved into a pumpkin. Looking through different pumpkin faces on Web sites as well as in books can give you ideas for carving your own pumpkin. You can also print the pumpkin face stencils out, making the carving process much easier.

  • PDF reader
  1. Step 1

Look over the pumpkin face designs in the book "Great Pumpkins: Crafty Carvings for Halloween," by Peter Cole, Jessica Hurley and Kate Kunath. This book offers pumpkin face ideas for veteran pumpkin carvers as well as rookies. You will also find step-by-step instructions for each of the designs listed in the book.

  2. Step 2

Browse through the pumpkin faces listed on the DLTK Web site (see Resources). Scroll down the page to find instructions for creating patterns for pumpkin faces. You will then find templates for pumpkin faces at the bottom of the page. Click on one of the templates and you will be able to print that image. Those looking for cut and paste pumpkin face ideas should click the "Jack-o'-Lantern Faces" link at the top of the page.

  3. Step 3

Check out the pumpkin faces on the Celebrating Halloween Web site (see Resources). This Web page offers dozens of free pumpkin face stencils that can be printed from your computer. Click on one of the stencils to read about that particular pumpkin face. You can then click the download link to view and print a larger version of that stencil.

  4. Step 4

Find pumpkin face ideas on the History Channel Web site (see Resources). The History Channel offers both beginner and advanced pumpkin face ideas. Scroll down the page and browse through each of the stencils listed. Click on the pumpkin face of your choice and a larger image will open as a PDF. You will then be able to print this image.
