How to Make a Funny Halloween Costume

Creating a Halloween costume is one of the more enjoyable things you can do for the Halloween holiday, and if you're fortunate enough to have children, that makes it even better. While some people choose to make scary Halloween costumes, others choose to make funny ones instead. Making a funny costume takes the same amount of time as a scary one, and getting a few laughs from trick-or-treaters or your pals at the yearly Halloween party can often be more fun. Instructions

    • 1

Cut the umbrella in half so that you have what appears to be two bat wings. Discard the handle.

    • 2

Attach the two halves of the black umbrella to the back of the leotard using the safety pins so that part of each wing is showing on both sides.

    • 3

Cut out two medium sized black triangles from the black construction paper. Super glue these to the top of the black plastic hair band so the point of the triangle is pointing up. Make sure to space them out so they appear to be on top of your head rather than to the sides. These will be your bat ears when you put the hair band on.

    • 4

Put your on your black tights and your leotard with the wings attached.

    • 5

Secure your hair back if necessary and then using the black face paint, paint your entire face, making sure to avoid a small area around your eyes, and your mouth. Wash your hands when you're pleased with how your face looks.

    • 6

Release your hair and then add your hair band with your bat ears.

    • 7

Put your black gloves and black flats or shoes on. Your funny bat costume is now complete.

Tips & Warnings

  • Consider gluing black felt or construction paper to a black knit hat and wearing that on your head in place of the hair band with ears to ward off the cold if you're going to be trick-or-treating. Consider creating bat wings from black construction paper and attaching them to a wire before attaching the wire to your leotard. Consider wearing black or red contact lenses to change your eye color.

  • If you decide to create construction paper bat wings, be aware that these are easier to tear and become destroyed than the old umbrella ones mentioned earlier.
