Does your kid loose mittens and gloves easily? Is the family mitten budget tapped out? Is your kid at least five years old? If so, try this solution.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Ribbon or cord
  • New mittens
  • Child's coat
  1. Step 1

Do not continue if your child is under 5 years old. This method uses a piece of string which can be a strangulation hazard for younger children.

  2. Step 2

Run the string in at the cuff of one arm of the child's jacket and back out the other arm.

  3. Step 3

Leave about a hand's length extra hanging out at the cuffs and cut the string off.

  4. Step 4

Tie one end of the string to the wrist of one of the mittens. Some mittens come with a loop that makes this job easy. With knit mittens, you just need to push the string through the knit fabric. A blunt yarn needle will make this easier. With sewn mittens, you'll need to sew on a loop of ribbon.

  5. Step 5

Tie the other end of the string to the cuff of the other mitten.
