How to Cure Rosacea Acne

Rosacea acne is a common skin disorder. According to whathealth.com, approximately 14 million Americans are affected by this chronic condition. Rosacea acne starts out as a blush on the face. It resembles a sunburn or just plain acne, often centered on the nose and the middle of the face. Later, tiny pimples and red lines appear. Technically, rosacea acne can't be cured, but with regular treatment its symptoms can be kept under control.

    • 1

Talk to your doctor about a treatment plan for rosacea acne. He can prescribe oral antibiotics, topical antibiotics, antibacterial face washes and/or light therapy. Depending on the severity of your rosacea acne, you may need to use a combination of treatments to control the symptoms.

    • 2

Use gentle soaps, moisturizers, cosmetics and other face products that are designed for sensitive skin. Choose products that are formulated not to clog your pores, which can aggravate rosacea acne. Avoid rubbing your face, as this will irritate the skin. Apply skin products gently.

    • 3

Buy and use hair sprays that don't contain alcohol. Forever Aloe Pro-Set, Jane Carter Natural Hold Spray Gel and Aloe 80 Styling Spray are a few examples. Use a hair spray mask to further protect your sensitive facial skin.

    • 4

Apply sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher before you go outdoors. Further protect your face from direct sun exposure by wearing a wide-brimmed hat. Exposure to the sun is a common irritant to rosacea acne.

    • 5

Quit smoking, and avoid spicy foods and alcoholic drinks to keep the symptoms of rosacea acne to a minimum. These are common aggravators. Keep a daily diary to identify other foods, drinks, medications and environmental factors that aggravate rosacea acne. That way, you can learn what other triggers you need to avoid.

Tips & Warnings

  • Be careful when using over-the-counter acne medications. They can irritate skin that's affected by rosacea acne.
