How to Calculate CRDP

Beginning in 2004, retired veterans are able to collect both military retirement benefits and Veterans Affairs (VA) disability. This combined amount is known as Concurrent Retirement and Disability Pay (CRDP). To calculate how much you are entitled to, refer to the procedure below.

Instructions

    • 1

Figure your VA Disability Compensation Rate. You can find this figure from the table in the Resources section. For this example, we will use the information for a veteran with no children living alone with a 60 percent disability. The figure according to the table is $974.

    • 2

Determine your CRDP Pay Computation from the table in the Resources section. For this example, the figure is $125. Subtract this from the VA Disability Compensation Rate to get $849.

    • 3

Multiply the figure from Step 2 by the current restoration rate. You can view these rates below in the CRDP Pay Computation table. For 2009, the number is 84.88 percent. The product is $720.63.

    • 4

Add in the CRDP Pay Computation again. This number is $125 for our example, giving a total of $845.63.

Tips & Warnings

  • This law is being phased in through 2014, meaning each year you will be entitled for more pay until the law is completely phased in.
