Removing Underarm Stains
-
1
Read the washing instructions on the label of your shirt. If your shirt is dry-clean only, do not attempt to treat the stain yourself. Take it to a dry cleaner.
-
2
Pre-treat the stain before washing. Effective treatments include oxygenated liquid detergent or a solution of hydrogen peroxide and water mixed in a 1:1 ratio. You can also use household vinegar or make a paste by combining 1 tablespoon of cream of tartar and three crushed aspirin with 1 cup of water.

-
3
Use a toothbrush to apply the solution to the stain and allow the solution to permeate the affected area for 30 minutes.
-
4
Rinse the solution from the shirt and launder as you normally would.
-
5
Repeat the process if the stain does not completely disappear. Also consider using one of the other recommended solutions to pre-treat.

Tips & Warnings
Wash the garment using the hottest water you can safely use on it every third or fourth wash. This helps to prevent further staining and buildup. Always pre-treat an inconspicuous area of the garment first to verify that you won't cause any discoloration or damage. If you constantly stain the underarms of your shirt, try switching deodorants. Use a deodorant/antiperspirant that does not have aluminum in the ingredients.
Delicate fabrics may be damaged with home remedies. Take delicate clothing to your dry cleaner for professional treatment.
