1
Experiment with OTC medications. Improve mild or moderate arthritis with over-the-counter pain medications. Anti-inflammatory drugs (ibuprofen, naproxen sodium, aspirin) effectively stops pain and inflammation, and alleviates symptoms of arthritis.
-
2
Take prescription medications as directed. Medications proven to improve arthritis include corticosteroids and immunosuppressant drugs, which stop inflammation and reduce pain.

3
Use heat therapy to stop joint and muscle inflammation. Chronic pain responds to heat therapy. Purchase a heating pad and apply the pad to sore or achy spots as needed.
-
4
Apply a cold compress. Arthritis symptoms may respond to cold therapy as it numbs soreness and alleviates inflammation.

5
Talk to your doctor about vitamin supplements. Omega-3 or fish oil is a natural anti-inflammatory and glucosamine supplements promote healthy joints and cartilage. Speak to a doctor or pharmacist about combining these supplements with medication.

Get active. Pain and soreness are common with arthritis, but exercise and being active improves joint mobility and reduces pain. Start an exercise program and engage in low-impact workouts at least three times a week for at least 30 minutes.
